HANDS ON: CRAFT IN CONTEMPORARY ART

4 December 2010 – 29 January 2011

Hands On is an exhibition of works by contemporary artists who use hand

crafts as tools of expression in their practice. The show incorporates a

rich variety of materials, including recycled plastics, yachting ropes, yarn,

human hair, leather, recycled fabrics and natural grasses. From knitting

and leather craft to tapestry and weaving, an array of unlikely or even

denigrated methods are used with great skill, and often wit, to produce

works of depth, meaning and cultural relevance.

Organised by Hazelhurst Regional Gallery & Arts Centre. Curated by Cash Brown.

Image: Alice Lang, Aurapod (detail), 2010, recycled sweaters, wadding, yarn.

Knitting & Crocheting Circle at Cronulla Library

A lovely, multicultural group of crafters of all ages have been meeting at Cronulla Library to share an afternoon of knitting, crocheting, talking, sharing and laughing.

2nd & 4th Wednesday of the month, 1.30 - 3pm

Bring some wool and needles or hook, take a seat and enjoy. It is always free and you are always welcome.

Astrid is the library contact and she can answer all your questions. There are always loads of books to borrow or refer to for ideas or techniques and you will always find someone in the circle who can help you through a difficult stitch.

Are you a complete beginner? Come along - this is not a class and there are no teachers but with the right attitude, you will pick it us quickly and with plenty of people to help you along.

See you soon!!!
